The article's starting point is the legislation's commitment to service user participation in all aspects of mental health work and what this means in practice. Acute C at Blakstad Hospital introduced patient participation in writing in the medical journal around 2000. A text written by a patient gives feedback on the benefits of such participation. In addition, questions are raised about why, after a period of 5 years, it has not been introduced by more departments. Based on this text, the authors reflect on the importance of user involvement and why involvement like writing their own journal continues to be a major challenge for mental health care. Change in power relations is proposed as an answer.
