Sammanfattning
Background:Activities, both social, cultural, physical and spiritual,
means a lot for the individual and most people have the
pleasure of participating in different activities. The health and
care services should facilitate individualized and meaningful
activities for their users. There is a need to apply new solutions,
new technology and new methods to strengthen care services in
the municipalities. National and international studies show that
there is both interest and skepticism about the use of tablets
of the elderly. There is little research on the use of tablets in
nursing homes.
Aim: The purpose of the study was to test whether tablets could
be used for activities that contribute to a more meaningful everyday
life for nursing home patients.
Method: The participants were 16 first year nursing students.
We have mapped the students’ experiences with the use of iPad
during their practice at nursing homes. Reflection notes were
analyzed by means of systematic text condensation.
Findings: Findings from studies show that by means of tablets,
many good moments were created for patients in nursing homes.
Poor wireless networks and little time for activity work are
today’s challenge at nursing homes.
Conclusion: Experience from the project shows that tablets
can be used as tools in nursing homes on the understanding
that improved internet coverage and more time and resources
for activity work
