Sammanfattning
This paper focuses on people´s lived experiences of Parkinson´s disease (PD) and the challenges for medical social workers in the welfare society.
It is well known that patients diagnosed with PD suffer from fall-related incidents and experience fears of falling and close to falling. This study has
investigated the occurrence of injury events and risky situations in residential environments in persons´ with the disease. In total, 11 participants with the
diagnosis PD have been interviewed for injuries and safety at home. The result shows that there is a relatively high rate of injuries among the participants, while the awareness and knowledge about risky situations, injuries and vulnerability are also high among the persons. Several of the participants feel that family members express concern about safety and security.
