Sammanfattning
In many welfare states, Sweden included, people live in food poverty. It affects vulnerable groups, as refugees, in particular, and leads to unhealth.
Where states fail to meet food poverty, civil society organizations, as the Swedish City missions (CM), may enter. Here, food poverty in Sweden, and
the CM:s attempts to meet it, is focused. Results indicate that the CM:s do extensive efforts concerning food supply to vulnerable groups, and that they
prepare further efforts in the future. Four possible sub-explanations are employed to understand the results, including the increasing income gaps
between rich and poor, new and vulnerable groups, a complexity emerging when ideas about “free choice” meets welfare state nutrition responsibilities,
and food surplus in society.
