Sammanfattning

Regular physical exercise can help prevent non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus or type 2 diabetes. A walking campaign was a part of the Stockholm Diabetes Prevention Program (SDPP); the intervention phase of the program being directed at three of the major risk factors for the development of the disease: physical inactivity, poor dietary habits, and obesity. The campaign was conducted in the municipality of Upplands Väsby. A combination of self-reported data and direct observation of exercise behaviour were used. Questionnaires and forms were designed to collect information from both the leaders and the participants.
