Sammanfattning

The aim of this study was to map how results from research in caring or nursing science are integrated in school health service. The data was collected using a questionnaire with six unstructured and three structured questions. The sample consisted of 26 school nurses from both Finnish and Finland-Swedish schools. Data were analyzed by using content analysis and descriptive statistics. The results showed that findings from research were not integrated in praxis. The greatest barrier to evidence based caring was that school nurses are unaware of research results and that the implementation of findings from research is difficult. At school, caring science is seen primarily in the relationship with the pupils. School nurses strive to develop an evidence based caring culture, but they lack knowledge and key competence. They wish to strengthen their competence in order to be able to meet challenges in the school health service and in order to alleviate the pupils´ suffering, a suffering which shows itself for instance as eating disorders, drug abuse, violence or bullying. There is a discrepancy between the school nurses´ caring reality and findings from previous research in school health service
