Sammanfattning
This article lists the elements of an effective internship based on learning theories and empirical studies. There are three major elements, preparation, process , and closure , based on well-established principles of planning, carrying out and evaluating educational processes. The preparation of an internship should include the establishment of general educational aims as well as specific learning objectives. Process refers to the internship itself and focuses on the learning climate, faculty and students. The educational climate must ensure that students gain access to active involvement in learning experiences. Supervision by faculty must take its point of departure in the students' prior knowledge and enhance students' reflection on action. Finally, students must take responsibility for their own learning, aiming at becoming self-directed learners. Closure consists of the assessment of learning outcomes as well as course evaluation.
