Sammanfattning

This article discusses the advantages of introducing a portfolio into the medical curriculum and how a portfolio may be established. First, students must be guided to achieve an appropriate structure. Second, supervision is useful to ensure students' progress towards meeting educational goals. Third, assessment may be an important method of directing students' learning. These aspects were considered when a portfolio was introduced into the final year of a medical curriculum. In general, most students found that using a portfolio clarifies their learning goals and ensures the achievement of these goals.
