Sammanfattning
Introduction: The Danish National Board of Health has recently issued new guidelines for the education of PRHOs, including a list of 124 objectives for various aspects of competence. The aim of this study was to survey to what extent the training sites feel that their departments are capable of preparing their trainees according to these requirements. Materials and methods: All training sites providing clinical training of PRHOs received a questionnaire in which we asked the departments to indicate which of the 124 objectives they could prepare their trainees for. Results: In total, 51 of 64 (80%) of the training sites responded to the questionnaire. The results demonstrated that the training sites could prepare their trainees for 57 (46%) of the 124 objectives. Of 16 objectives addressing emergency medicine, the training sites could meet only two. Discussion: The results of this study indicate a need to discuss whether the goals and objectives of the PRHO training programmes should be related to specific skills and categories of patients or whether a broader concept of competence should be applied. That would allow for including a greater degree of variability among the sites in the programme.
