In 1996, the County of Aarhus instituted a fund of 0.7 million euros annually for projects directed toward quality improvement of younger doctors' education. In 1997-2002, a total of 81 projects were funded. Funding appeared to have a positive effect on education by inducing a focus on educational matters. Production demands, however, competed with projects. A lack of systematically collected data made effective evaluations impossible, and prospective investigations into the relationship between economical support and quality of medical education are necessary.
