Sammanfattning

Attitudes towards clinical research are generally positive even among persons suffering from cancer renouncing to participate in a research project . A large majority feel that scientific testing is necessary before treatments are implemented by the health service. Both personal and altruistic motives play a large role in the decision to participate in trials. Fear of »the unknown« and resentment of randomisation are given as the primary reasons for refusing to participate in research projects, whereas only a minority of those surveyed feel that a moral problem is thus created. Negative experiences among participants suffering from cancer are generally related to the frustration caused by seeing too many different physicians at check-up appointments.
