Sammanfattning
Childhood and juvenile absence epilepsy are epileptic syndrom in which the maín seizures are absences and which begins in children below and above 10 years of age, respectively. There is only one small randomized controlled study of treatment of childhood and juvenile absence epilepsy, and it shows evidence in category 1 for treatment with valproate and ethosuximide for a period of 12 weeks. There is also one »responder-enriched« study that shows evidence in category 2 for lamotrogine, while there is evidence in category 4 for several other antiepileptics. There is consensus for treatment with valproate, ethosuximide and lamotrigine. Several studies indicate a good seizure prognosis. A search of the literature did not reveal sufficient studies of the prognosis for cognitive and social development.
