Sammanfattning
A nosebleed is defined as acute hemorrhaging from the nostril, nasal cavity or nasopharynx. Nosebleeds cause stress in most patients, and patients are often anxious and exhausted when they seek help.
The article deals with how patients should act in an acute situation and with nursing care prior to and after haemostasis during outpatient treatment and admission. Nursing requires knowledge of where a nosebleed occurred and of the medical treatment outlined. Nursing comprises reassurance, observation, pain relief, positioning, oral hygiene, information re. defecation, alcohol, smoking, removal of nasal scabs and how new bleeding can be prevented and monitored.
