Sammanfattning
Two surveys carried out by Vejle County Psychiatric Services from the New Year 2005-06 show that physical activity among 43 per cent of the county's psychiatric patients is very low. Their activity level equates with that of wheelchair users, even though they suffer no form of physical disability that restricts their movement. During psychiatric treatment and rehabilitation, three quarters of psychiatric patients show a level of physical activity decidedly detrimental to their health. By way of comparison, the same applies to only one quarter of the psychiatric care staff. It is estimated that 20-30 per cent of the Danish population has a correspondingly low level of physical activity.
The estimated level of physical activity was substantiated by an objective pedometer survey, which shows that 65 per cent of psychiatric patients walk less than the recommended 10,000 a day, while only 23 per cent of psychiatric staff walk less than 10,000 steps a day.
