The main message is that theory and analysis are important tools in relation to the development of the nursing profession. The article describes how theory has consequences for actions implemented.
Conceptions as to what theory involves are presented; the classic scientific ideal and the concept of ideals seen from a hermeneutic angle.
Analysis is all about putting one's knowledge to good use in new contexts.
A concrete example is provided from the realm of clinical regarding nurses' use of theory and analysis.
Clinical nursing would be able to develop if clinical nurses improved their practical skills in the application of theory and analysis by means of assignments, articles, in-service training, etc.
