Sammanfattning

Sleep is a life style factor in itself and connected to basic processes of restitution as well as to long-term health. Sleep also responds to other life style factors, especially stress, night work, late social habits, alcohol, smoking, a sedentary life style, excessive sleep, light, noise, high ambient temperature, and others. Sleep problems may often be reduced through judicious use of, for example, exercise, stress reduction, stabilized sleep timing, exposure to day light, sleep restriction and various types of sleep hygiene (dark, cool, and silent bedroom).
