Sammanfattning

This article presents a doctoral dissertation with focus on nursing students’ learning process on the bachelor level. The difficult integration between theory and practice is central in the text. This investigation shows that the nursing students learn the basics about the professional practice by listening to themselves and their own immediate and authentic reactions when facing the patients. These reactions have to be the starting point for corresponding reflections. In this way, the students can start processing important experiences and insights. Eventually, these experiences and insights will become a central part of the professional practice. The challenge for the professional education is therefore to detect and take care of the students’ personal experiences, both concerning the patients and themselves. The students’ development must constantly find itself between work and text.
