Sammanfattning

The home as an arena for treatment, rehabilitation and care is by no means a new idea or practice. This has been emphasised in health and social research; in political documents; and by service users and family members. The home represents a person’s history, life context and identity, and is individual as well as social. In crisis resolution home treatment teams, the professional and patient meet in the home. This is the context of developing trust, collaboration and help and support. The objective of the present paper is to explore philosophical ideas and experiences of a home and the opportunities and dilemmas of home treatment. Theories of the home and empirical material from two studies about service users’ and professionals’ experiences of home treatment illuminate the research questions. Personal control, feeling safe, «doing good» and autonomy - both for patient and professional - are central findings and themes of discussion.
