The aim of this study is to illuminate the clinical supervisors experience with supervising on supervision. Clinical supervisors in nursing
homes have received supervision on their supervision of the students of nursing. The clinical supervisors were supervised by university lecturers.
Data was collected through focus group interviews with nine supervisors working in nursing homes. Their tasks include supervising students
in clinical practice training. The focus group interviews were analyzed by a phenomenological-hermeneutic method. The research shows
that supervising the supervisors has lead to increased competence and has clarified the role of the clinical supervisor. They have increased
their focus on the nursing profession and have developed a better understanding of their own responsibilities as a supervisor. The supervision
has created necessary space and time for reflection. In addition the clinical supervisor gained a conversation partner in the university lecturer.
Supervising the supervisor has also improved the contact and understanding between the university and the practice. All these factors have
contributed to improve the supervisor’s competence in supervising the students of nursing.
