Sammanfattning

The national public health policy is clearly focusing health equity, which is also reflected in the instruction of the Swedish Public Health Agency. In this article, we discuss the concepts of social determinants, social investments, and social sustainability. The discussion is based on the factual and value premises of public health. We state that the concepts are not new in the public health area, but have contributed to increased attention to equity and sustainability. The Swedish Public Health Agency operates broadly for decreased health inequities and observes the need of analytical development regarding inequity measure, health measure, epidemiologic analysis, and evaluation of interventions. We believe it is important to present facts in manners giving politicians the opportunity to make informed decisions.
