Sammanfattning
Introduction: Radiation therapists in
Norway have little involvement in research
and fail to take the leading role in
conducting radiation therapy related
research projects. Radiation therapists
need to engage more in research for
the benefit of their own professional
development. The aim of this study was
to identify research areas that radiation
therapists consider of value to study.
Material and methodology: Delphi
technique was used as research method.
Data about the respondents’ competence
was collected using a communication
process, where the aim was
to come to agreement about a subject.
Questionnaires were sent to all ten
departments of radiation oncology in
Norway, asking for a group in each
department to identify relevant research
areas in radiotherapy. A questionnaire
including three open-ended
questions was attached the request: i)
what problems experience while treating
patients? ii) what problems experience
while collaboration with colleagues? iii)
what areas of radiation therapy requires
further research by radiation therapists?
Results: Eight out of ten departments
responded. The questions were discussed
a total of 33 radiation therapists who
emerged 150 statements. The statements
were divided into three categories; staff
issues (58 statements), technical issues
(51 statements) and patient related issues
(41 statements). The categories included
nine areas: collaboration, organization
of work, training and skills, accuracy in
patient positioning, equipment, treatment
modalities, patient information,
ethics and patient care.
Conclusion: Norwegian radiation therapists
are able to define topics that may
be relevant for research projects aimed
further development of the radiotherapy
profession.
