Sammanfattning
A sample of 930 women participating in the project Women and alcohol in
Gothenburg answered a gender identity scale. Initially we found an association
between the dimension "emotional" and the risk of belonging to the group
of high consumers, binge drinkers or those with alcohol diagnosis. This association
became not significant after adjustment for personality factors. Further
we found an association between low estimate of the dimension "leadership"
and the risk of alcohol diagnosis. This association remained significant also
after adjustment for personality factors, psychiatric diagnosis and education.
In the article gender identity is discussed in relation to gendered norms and
structures in society and the importance of developing a gender theoretical
understanding of alcohol habits.
