Patients as well as specialist clinicians all agree that the current care for people
suffering from ME/CFS is appaling by any standard. The general knowledge
level ranges from rudimental to non-existent. Most patients receive
an incorrect diagnosis, which significantly worsens their condition. Currently
there are only two specialist clinics in Sweden. One has been forced to stop
accepting any new referrals due to extreme overload. The other is under
threat of being closed down. In order to make ME/CFS visible, more research
to prove the real cause of the illness is urgent. Specialist clinics all
around Sweden are also needed. Several politicians agree that the situation
is untenable, but there is not much happening to change it.
