Sammanfattning
The number of users in need of municipal healthcare services is expected to increase significantly
in the near future. Virtual visits may be a useful way of delivering healthcare services.
The aim was to explore the experiences of homebound elderly and users with chronic conditions
with use of virtual visits with healthcare professionals and explore whether care provided through virtual visits support self-care.
Data was collected through individual in-depth interviews with 14 participants, aged between 56 and 90 years. The
findings showed that the users experienced the virtual visits with professionals as a physical
encounter; it was almost like talking «face-to-face». The virtual visits appeared to provide
an easy opportunity to talk with qualified healthcare professionals that had sufficient
time and to be able to ask questions and get advice about health concerns. The users appreciated
the social aspect of the virtual visits; someone to talk to, they felt safe and being
looked after. In conclusion, video visits hold promising benefits for at-home care for
elderly users and users with chronic conditions and can be a useful mean in providing continuous
observation and information after hospital discharge and supporting self-care.
