Sammanfattning
In a retrospective long-term follow up of patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation treated with non-vitamin K dependent oral anticoagulants in a specialist clinic, the incidence of reported macroscopic hematuria was relatively low and none of these was major bleeding. Urgent investigation of the bleeding source by a urologist showed different etiologies, like newly discovered neoplasm, benign hyperplasia of the prostate gland, renal stones, or inflammatory changes in the urinary bladder, and some had normal findings. The majority of patients continued oral anticoagulation therapy after investigation. Incidence of re-bleeding was very low.
