Sammanfattning
Epidemiological and experimental empirical studies have shown that access to
and contact with natural environments is associated with both better physical
and mental health, with positive effects on several aspects of well-being and
recovery from mental strain. Nature contact can also affect interpersonal prosocial
behavior, environmental behavior, and health behavior. Natural environments
are thus an important resource also for meeting public health challenges
with mental health, where stress and lack of recovery are common
causes. Protecting nature, promoting contact with nature both inside and outside
city boarders, and working actively for the integration of nature into the
design of our living environments and lifestyles are thus central to human and
social sustainability as well as for environmental/ ecological sustainability.
