Sammanfattning

As the diversity of society increases, arenas that enable intergroup contacts are increasingly central to social cohesion. The study investigates whether there are contacts between groups that differ from each other within civil society organizations and if the contacts correlate with higher trust and tolerance toward outgroups. The study is based on a survey directed to 10200 individuals in 36 Swedish municipalities. Intergroup contacts in civil society organizations occur to varying degree. The results point to the importance of contacts being perceived as positive for trust and tolerance between groups. The results are in line with previous studies that that indicate that younger respondents are more likely to perceive intergroup contacts as positive.
