Sammanfattning

”Welcome to Skåne” is a collaborative project between libraries, museums, local organizations, industry and the civic orientation in Skåne. The aim of the project is to promote health through the use of customized study visits within an expanded civic orientation program. The participants had a good general self-assessment of health, but low participation in recreational activities and low confidence in societal institutions. However, the confidence in the institutions visited, such as libraries, museums and local organizations was higher, indicating that customized study visits could increase newly arrived migrants’ confidence in institutions. The institutions visited offered services and activities that participants are missing and need. By participating in the extended civic orientation program and by gaining access to different societal institutions the participants attained a larger sense of independence and were introduced to new recreational activities, which may increase psychological well-being.
