Sammanfattning
In previous research the importance of the physical environment for individuals’ health and well-being has been acknowledge. With one exception,
adolescents in institutional care. The aim of the present study is to elucidate and problematize how different aspects of the physical environment in youth
institutions have been recognized in previous research, by conducting a qualitative literature scoping. The results show that the physical environment
seems to be related to reconcilement, as well as rehabilitation and the exit process. Nevertheless, this research is rarely used in design practice, which
leads to several risks. One of them being the reinforced loss of control for adolescents in care due to the securitization.
