Sammanfattning

Supervision in clinical education for nursing students is a substantial part in their training. Many studies have shown how important the nurse is as an instructor. She / he must pay attention to the student so they together can plan how to reach the student´s goal. The nurse must also think about how good learning can be taught and be aware of the relation between the two of them. The aim of this study was to describe the meaning of the word supervision and different definitions. The analyses of the definitions arose from scandinavian literature between 1977 - 1998. To discover synonyms have many dictionaries of synonyms from 1971 - 1995 been used. When working with the data have common attributes been found. Supervision mostly translates with educate, guide and instruct. The definitions of supervision describe it as a pedagogical method / process The supervision is goal- or processrelated. The student´s learning is a process in her / his education. The process consists of a relation between student and nurse, it is continous and communication is important in their relations. A development of theory knowledge and practical skill are going on under the supervision. Reflective thinking and development of the identity of the nurse profession also occur. The supervision gives from an experienced person to a less experienced. The authors conclusion is that supervision is to educate a nurse student to be reflective in her/his doing, to be able to handle practical as well as theoretical situations, communicate and be aware of the relations.
