Sammanfattning

Vulnerability has recently become a very often used concept in many different disciplines ranging from bioethics, psychology, sustainability science, epidemiology, health promotion and economy, but with confusingly different meanings. It is not a concept with a strong tradition in Swedish social medicine. In social epidemiology and the study of health inequalities, differential vulnerability has been used reflecting differential susceptibility across social groups to the effect of specific causes of disease. In in sustainability science it has been used as a concept covering both exposure, susceptibility and capability to adapt, cope or change exposure. As such it has great relevance for policies promoting both health equity and social sustainability
